46-2100 Cultural Theories This course maps the major concepts, paradigms and methodologies underlying Cultural Studies theory and practice. Assignments draw upon a diverse range of scholars whose work engages with Marxism, Media Studies, Feminism, Psychoanalysis, Anthropology, Sociology, Post-Colonial Theory, and the interdisciplinary field of Cultural Studies itself. We will make use of examples from art, mass media, literature, and architecture to critically examine themes of production and consumption, power and resistance, technologies and bodies, identity and representation, space, place, and globalization.
