Spring 2015 Medium Modules


Photographing Space (sections 01, 02, 03)
In this module, students will explore the ways the camera transforms three-dimensional space into a two-dimensional image. Students will need access to a digital camera with manual capabilities. Cameras may be checked out from the A+D Media Center for short periods of time.

Sewing Essentials (sections 04, 05, 06, 13, 14, 15)
Students will learn professional sewing techniques. These techniques are explored, using industrial equipment and hand sewing to create a series of technical samples.

Basic HTML/CSS (sections 07, 08, 09)
This module will cover HTML/CSS for an introduction to web design.

Drawing: Ink on Paper (sections 10, 11, 12)
This module teaches the medium of black ink on white paper, both with pen and brush. Students take on four studies, each focused on a particular genre: self-portrait, group portrait, still life, and street scene.

Image, Text, and Type (sections 16, 17, 18)
This module uses a series of exercises to explore the relationship between text and image across a variety of media. Each student will produce a 12-page booklet demonstrating skill in the manipulation of visual and textual elements in concert.

Collaging Interiors in Photoshop (sections 19, 20, 21)
Students will design and sketch basic interior spaces in Photoshop, visualizing the atmosphere (look and feel) of spaces and activities that could take place in them. Photoshop images will be printed and further manipulated in a three-dimensional collage to investigate design options.

Basic Screenprinting (sections 22, 23, 24)
This module introduces the student to the technics of screenprinting through a series of exercises designed to integrate the core concepts of editions, stencils, photo stencils, half tones, color layers, and key plates, to produce a series of prints on paper.

Photographing in the Studio (sections 25, 26, 27)
This module will teach the basic fundamentals of controlling artificial light in a studio setting for the photography of people as well as two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects. Students will need access to a digital camera with manual capabilities. Cameras may be checked out from the A+D Media Center for short periods of time.
