ENGL 346H Cultural Criticism and the Arts: Honors Students hone fundamental skills for research and writing necessary for insightful, interdisciplinary critical readings of trends or topics in media culture. They also will come to understand how works of art of many kinds can be critiqued to make larger points about society and culture, and how different media can be used to present these kinds of critical pieces. Successful students produce writing of publishable quality and explore options for the distribution and circulation of their work online and in print. The course is designed to increase students’ skills as writers, readers, and consumers of culture; as assertive and perceptive critics; and as careful editors and designers of complex writing projects. This course is part of the Honors program and requires, at a minimum, a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher to register (in addition to other possible pre-requisites).
