THEA 479 Theatre Pedagogy in Practice


In this course, Junior and Senior level students will be introduced to teaching methods and culturally responsive pedagogy specific to theatre. Working within their areas of study, students will work toward developing teaching-specific skills that may include: performing effective demonstrations, implementing class management techniques, conducting research for lecture preparation, etc. Students will assist faculty members with classroom exercises, perform the role of a peer leader in discussions and demonstrations, lead portions of classes or rehearsals, and/or engage in individual peer mentorship. Additionally, teaching aides will meet regularly with the course instructor outside of class to learn and evaluate skills for particular class preparation, facility/equipment preparation, instruction-related research, etc.
