CCCX 316 Equitable Futures

In this course, students will collaborate to explore new futures and innovative possibilities that open the way for us to imagine a more economically and socially just world. Any particular section of this course might focus on a specific larger social justice issue such as, but not limited to, antiracism, accessibility, climate change, decolonization, food insecurity, health care inequity, environmental inequity, migration and immigration rights, post-capitalism, the prison-industrial complex, unsheltered individuals and homelessness, and/or technological bias. Course materials and discussions will explore systemic causes, current alternatives, unmet needs, and unrealized possibilities in order to open space for innovation. Students research diversity, equity, and inclusion in the context of the focus of their course as they may intersect, correlate, and connect with gender identity, sexual orientation, race, culture, social class, voting and current government systems. Employing site visits, interviews, social media listening, and projective techniques, as well as iterative design, students will evaluate, propose, and execute a final project intended to imagine a world that is fully accessible to, and equitable for all.
