THEA 530 Intimacy Foundations: Ethical Practices

Students will develop a nuanced understanding of the issues of consent, boundaries, and power dynamics as specifically applied to performance practice and performance training environments. Students will deepen their awareness around performance work associated with heightened vulnerability and where issues of identity intersect with staged intimacy in the performing arts contexts.  This course explores tools and resources necessary to support sustainable performance practice and includes thoughtful consideration and application of resiliency skills within professional and educational performance spaces.  Students will examine the ways in which the broader topic of inclusive performance practice is in conversation with staging intimacy and consider their own relationship to canonical thinking and training.  Students will complete their certification in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing (NCMW).
