DANC 385B Hip-Hop and Street Dance Technique III


This course focuses on intermediate to advanced-levelfoundational techniques of Hip-Hop dance and related streetdance forms (e. g., breaking, locking, popping, and house) thathave contributed significantly to the birth, growth anddevelopment of Hip-Hop culture and movement. Studentsdevelop proficiency in intermediate to advanced-levelmovement vocabulary (associated with the specific formsbeing taught), as well as core Hip-Hop techniques andconcepts, including isolations, groove, dynamic range,footwork, freestyle and musicality. There is an emphasis onperformance quality, artistry and the development of originalstyle through set and improvised movement. Students areexpected to interface with the broader Hip-Hop communityand, professional artists, and as well as demonstrate a highlevel of proficiency in technique and the embodiment ofhistory, ethos and philosophies of Hip-Hop (and/or relatedstreet dance forms).
