ECON 210 Economics of the Post-Apocalypse

Economics is the study of how human communities provide for themselves. Basic economic activities have always been directed at procuring and producing means of subsistence and creating the conditions for species’ reproduction. The complexity of today’s economic relations and the level of affluence achieved in some parts of the globe mask this simple rationale behind economic activities. The course explores/exposes the basic concepts of economics such as cooperation, specialization, hierarchy, and segregation from the perspective of the post-apocalypse, as depicted in popular movies and TV shows, where the motivation behind economic life is stripped down to its most basic elements.
