HUMA 104 Introduction to Feminist and Queer Studies This course serves as an introduction to the fields of feminist and queer studies. It surveys the history of feminism and explores the rise and trajectories of gender studies and queer studies. The course examines the social construction of gender, sexuality, race, class, ability/disability, and other facets of identity, and engages with the ways in which these key identity elements intersect with each other within specific socio-cultural environments. Through a variety of selected readings, media, activities, and lectures, this course provides students with an opportunity to investigate and learn about the ways in which people’s lives are impacted by patriarchal power structures in both historical and contemporary times.
