This beginning course will introduce current themes in painting and its historical antecedents. Technical issues will be discussed and practiced through a variety of materials, methods, and imagery. Through studio activity, exhibition attendance and readings, course will introduce students to the discipline of painting and prepare them for more rigorous exploration. Students learn basic techniques of underpainting, mixing, blending, building form, composition, and concept with effective use of texture and color.
