23-2655 History of Photography II This course examines photography’s central role in both reflecting and shaping the cultural, social, political, economic, and scientific context from 1920 to the present. In addition to examining the medium’s major movements and practitioners within this context, the course will also emphasize the developing history, theory, and criticism of the medium and its relationship to modernism and postmodernism in other media. Students will be introduced to various methods of historical investigation through a balance of lectures, discussions, field trips to view historical photographic objects, primary and secondary source readings, group projects, writing assignments, and/or tests.
