43-2261 Sound Art Electronics Workshop Course explores the aesthetics and psychology of sound through the study of sound installation art and sound sculpture. Reading and discussion covers the aesthetic theories, technology, and histories that drive the medium. Students observe and interrogate the relationships and potential dialogue between the audience and the artwork, and apply their observations by designing and building their own artworks. Classes will be organized around hands-on activities, lecture, and discussion of readings. Students use basic building blocks of electronics and sensors to design their own sound sculptures, one-of-a-kind instruments, and installation art. In addition, a major component of the course will be the ongoing analysis and critique of student work. Students should be prepared to give and receive constructive criticism on their work, from both their peers and the instructor.
