23-6730 Photographic History, Theory & Criticism: 1989-Present This course surveys the major issues in the history, theory and criticism of photography since 1989, a period defined by the internet, globalization, photography’s rise to art market prominence, and the decline of medium-specific art theories. Close attention will be paid to photography’s intersection with other media - film, painting, and installation. Students will be exposed to a variety of photographic theories and art historical approaches so that they may situate their work within contemporary photographic movements and practices.
