21-2944 Furniture Design Furniture design incorporates a complex mix of aesthetics, ergonomics, and manufacturability. This course explores a range of furniture types, both custom and mass-produced. Coursework covers the conceptualization process from researching design problems and opportunities to developing scaled models and creating documentation in the form of dimensioned drawings. Students are introduced to technical issues such as furniture standards, construction techniques and manufacturing processes in the furniture industry. Problem solving in relationship to changing lifestyles and work environments may be investigated.
