Fine Arts Minor
|
|
The Fine Arts Minor is designed for students from any major who seek a studio art experience in which to develop proficiency in the materials and skills needed to conceptualize and execute fine arts projects that may creatively inform or strategically complement the primary area of study. To fulfill the requirements for this 18-credit minor, students take three lower-division courses and take three upper-divsion courses for a total of six courses. Structured with accessibility and flexibility in mind, this minor accommodates those who wish to explore the fine arts more generally by taking courses in a number of different media and topics and those who desire a more focused course of study of a particular medium, as well as those invested in more advanced, project-based explorations of contemporary art practice.
As a result of successfully completing program requirements, students should be able to:
- demonstrate a developed sensitivity to formal elements, principles of composition, material, technique, and style as they relate to art work;
- use appropriate tools and apply technical skills in producing work;
- examine relationships between concept and form, content and context;
- synthesize artistic knowledge, skills, and concepts in the creation of finished works of art; and
- relate the minor field of study to the student’s major discipline and future professional fields.
