The minor in journalism allows students to explore their interest in journalism and prepares them for various career options and freelance opportunities. The program includes skill-building courses in reported, digital, video and audio storytelling.  Students learn the rights and responsibilities of journalists in a democratic society and practice using technology and social media in the service of ethical journalism. The minor intends to equip students to be savvy reporters, as well as multimedia storytellers.    

As a result of successfully completing program requirements, students should be able to: 

• demonstrate an understanding of journalistic values and standards; 

• practice a journalistic style of researching, interviewing and writing; and   

• use digital tools to create written, audio, photo and video journalism for diverse audiences.
