Creative Writing Minor

Return to: Majors and Programs
The minor in Creative Writing is designed to allow students to combine their major fields of study with creative writing workshops and professional writing courses that will improve reading, writing, storytelling, listening, speaking, and creative problem-solving skills. It emphasizes both the process of writing and the many forms a piece of writing may take—including print, web, audio, and visual formats. The minor in Creative Writing is of interest to students who realize the great importance of writing and story in all arts and media disciplines, as well as most careers.
Program Learning Outcomes:
As a result of successfully completing program requirements, students should be able to:
- Independently and collaboratively compose creative and professional texts across a variety of modes for circulation to public, professional, or other audiences.
- Adapt writing and communication skills to address new and shifting contexts, problems, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
- Analyze their own and others’ artistic and cultural practices and products with demonstrated attention to the operations of identity and power and to the aims of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
