UX/UI Design Minor
|
|
Return to: Majors and Programs
The UX/UI Design (User Experience and User Interface) minor builds a foundation in user-centered design, integrating user experience and interface design principles to prepare students for competitive careers in design and technology. Coursework emphasizes user research, team-based development, and the visual design process for digital products, reinforced through client-based projects and practicum experiences. Students develop a strong understanding of user interaction, audience behavior, and engagement while collaborating to create innovative, real-world solutions. This interdisciplinary minor complements majors such as Graphic Design, Fashion, Advertising, Communication (Journalism), Marketing, and Game Design, equipping graduates with the practical and strategic skills needed for a rapidly evolving creative and technology-driven field.
As a result of successfully completing the minor requirements, students should be able to:
- conduct User Experience (UX) research and apply human-centered design methods to digital product development;
- create high-fidelity, interactive prototypes in Figma (industry-standard collaborative interface design tool) that reflect best practices and design process in User Interface (UI) design;
- prepare prototypes for developer handoff, applying design-to-development workflows and collaboration tools;
- demonstrate effective team member and leadership skills, including active participation, clear communication, meeting deadlines, and accountability; and
- work effectively in small, interdisciplinary teams to research, design, and develop a unique digital product from concept to prototype.
