This Master of Arts program emphasizes public affairs reporting and the crucial role played by a free and active press in communities large and small, national and international. The curriculum focuses on issues central to civic life - education, housing, welfare, criminal justice, labor, politics and the electoral process, science, economies, and arts. In addition to extensive instruction and practice in various forms of journalistic writing, students learn multimedia and, as electives, magazine and broadcast specialties. As soon as students’ work is ready, they are encouraged to publish it, building individual portfolios while earning a graduate degree.
