Music Technology, BS

Music Technology, which is inherently interdisciplinary, impacts the arts so magnificently that much of what we do and know would not exist without recent innovations in electronic and information technology. As a student, you will explore the impact of technology on music’s creation, presentation, representation, and distribution since the beginning of the 20th century while preparing for professional musical life, in all its aspects, in the 21st century.

Ranging from courses in Audio, Digital Signal Processing, Programming, Mathematics and Music Theory to topic areas such as Digital Music Composition, Authoring Interactive Media, Physics of Musical Instruments, Environmental Acoustics, Acoustical Modeling, Data Design, and in-depth courses such as the Sonic Experience, you will have a broad choice in targeted courses relevant to your area of concentration and interest.

The Sonic Experience

Once you are admitted to the program you will advance through four semester of The Sonic Experience. This course functions as the nexus of your work across Music, Sound Arts, and Computer Applications. Along with a cohort of like-minded peers you will explore and research guiding aesthetic philosophies and practical applications that guide electroacoustic music production, generating a portfolio of creative projects and accompanying technical essays.
