56-1835 Visualizing the Milky Way Galaxy This course is about our cosmic home, the Milky Way Galaxy. In it, students will learnabout the structure and evolution of this vast island of stars and nebulae. Along with basic galactic astronomy, students will learn astronomical image processing using the tools an astronomer would use on real data from the Hubble Space Telescope and others. Students will create a number of scientific visualizations of the Galaxy – from 2D images to short narrative productions.
3 Credits SC PREREQUISITES: 56-1728 Quantitative Reasoning or 56-1723 Liberal Arts Mathematics or 56-1720 College Mathematics
