52-3816 Cultural Criticism and the Arts Students hone fundamental skills for research and writing necessary for insightful, interdisciplinary critical readings of trends or topics in media culture. They also will come to understand how works of art from different media and be critiqued to make larger points, and how different media can be used to presenting that cultural criticism. Successful students produce writing of publishable quality and explore options for the distribution and circulation of their work online and in print. The course is designed to increase students’ skills as writers, readers, and consumers of culture; as assertive and perceptive critics; and as careful editors and designers of complex writing projects.
