Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the information contained in this Columbia College Chicago Catalog; however, the Catalog is not a contract but rather a guide for the convenience of students. The course introduces students to the pragmatic and artistic principles underlying the task of directing live performance. Students will explore various ways in which directors approach text, space, and collaborative work with performers. Through analysis of plot and character, shaping space through image, practical experience in the collaborative experience of rehearsal, and discussion of their own and their classmate’s work, students learn the fundamentals of telling a story onstage through action.
