AUDI 106 Working with MIDI

This short introductory course provides students with a practical technical understanding of the Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) specification, proceeding from an introduction to its basic data and message types, and how and why they are implemented in hardware controllers and software applications. Through hands-on experience, learners will develop proficiency in a variety of MIDI workflows, including using digital audio workstations (DAWs) and hardware controllers. Topics will include MIDI settings, mapping, sequencing, editing, synchronization, and automation, with an emphasis on how MIDI interacts with both virtual instruments and external devices.  Alternative music-related communication protocols may be touched upon as well.
