38-3690 Symbolic Representation and the Languages of Children In this seminar, students will examine the multiple ways in which children represent their thinking and how to use these representations to refine teaching practices. Students will be asked to consider the role that the arts play in the development of children and in their own development as professionals. They will use and reflect on the arts and children’s representations in their classrooms to foster children’s relationships, understanding, problem solving, and critical thinking. Students are expected to assimilate and document understandings taken from course readings and assignments into their daily Head Start practice. They are supported in the field component of the course by regular site visits from program faculty.
