38-2610 Child and Family in American Society: Images and Issues In this course, students explore the history of and issues in early childhood education in order to understand how it has been influenced by the social, political, and economic forces affecting the lives of children and families. This course examines the significant theories and people who have shaped early childhood education and the context in which they developed. In particular, the effects of social constructions of children and families on early childhood policies are addressed. Students consider what and who determine the goals of early childhood care and education, who defines and articulate the problems within it, and what solutions have been created.
