33-3444 Contemporary Trends in Dance Course develops students’ aesthetic awareness and analytical voice relative to contemporary dance. Topics covered include language and methods used to describe and discuss dance; examination and comparisons of contemporary dance works and their choreographers; the crossover of dance, theater, and other arts; and other important aesthetic and practical trends that shape contemporary dance. Through extensive viewing of video and live dance performance and subsequent writings and discussions, students learn to identify, describe, analyze, and interpret choreographic practices, characteristics of performers, different uses of production elements, and the aesthetic, political, social, and cultural contexts that characterize the state of the art today.
