51-2502 Women & Religion This course will take students on an introductory journey through the story of women’s religious experience. Starting with pre-Indo-European cultures which venerated a Goddess-Mother Creator and ending with the rise of new “feminist” approaches to religion, students will trace how women’s religious roles diminished with the rise of patriarchy; at the same time, they will encounter historical figures who transcended limitations of both gender segregation and cultural oppression to provide prophetic leadership and spiritual inspiration.
