50-3101HN The Artist in Society: Honors This anthropology course examines artists’ purposes, society’s perceptions of artists, and the creation of society and culture by artists. Readings, films, and project presentation will explore questions such as the evolutionary and social functions of art, the use of art for advocacy by social groups, and the patronage of the arts in the United States and India. Students should be prepared to consider their own artwork in the context of the course materials and issues. This course is part of the Honors program and requires, at a minimum, a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher to register.
