21-1040 Ceramics I This course introduces students to methods of forming and finishing clay into vessels, sculpture and tiles. Methods of hand building and modeling are demonstrated by the instructor and practiced by students. If appropriate, projects are fired. Finishing techniques such as glazing may be introduced. In addition to studio work, presentations, readings and discussions of traditional and contemporary applications for clay in design and fine art applications may be introduced. This course is appropriate for students from all majors.
