This Master of Arts program emphasizes public affairs reporting and the crucial role played by a free and active press in communities large and small, national and international. Students learn to cover issues central to civic life-education, housing, welfare, criminal justice, labor, politics and the electoral process. In addition to the basics of journalistic writing, ethics and reporting, digital skills are infused throughout the curriculum. Students learn a variety of multimedia skills, including video and audio production and editing. Building a portfolio -from the first class to the master’s thesis project - is a major emphasis of the program.
