The BFA degree is a student’s path toward a professional career in the arts. Students learn technical mastery, art history and theory, and critical thinking, as they develop a studio practice. Students leverage the major art center of Chicago, one of the most diverse cultural spaces in the world. In their final year of study, students complete a capstone experience culminating in a public exhibition of their work.
As a result of successfully completing program requirements, students should be able to:
- practice as an artist in the marketplace and in arts-related fields;
- build and sustain active professional networks;
- competitively pursue graduate education;
- engage in an active studio practice employing creativity, criticality, problem solving, technical ability, and historical research; and
- produce a professional body of work that reflects their visual and conceptual knowledge.
