Graduates of this major will be prepared to enter the creative workforce in the professional capacities of recording and live sound, with knowledge and skills that enable them to adapt and pivot to a wide range of professional audio careers. For those with entrepreneurial or artistic inclinations, graduates will be able to design and maintain a high-functioning recording or production practice that yields professional-grade results. In the established audio industry, graduates will have the skills to enter into A2 or A1 positions in live sound or recording engineering, with skills that include troubleshooting, problem solving, and applied engineering principles and techniques. With a flexible tool set, graduates can support scalable practices technically and creatively in many live, recording, and installed contexts.
Students successfully completing program requirements should be able to:
- demonstrate a functional understanding of contemporary audio technologies, auditory perception, and musical acoustics.
- function capably in a diverse range of professional contexts, including recording engineering, live sound reinforcement, and sound system design and integration;
- demonstrate a critical awareness regarding the cultural, social, and historical context of the audio arts; and
- evaluate sound quality or utility and correct any deficiencies using appropriate technical means.
