The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts: Production and Practice provides students with a comprehensive program of study through a combination of four concentrations: directing, design and technology, stage management, and theatre arts. Students will study theatrical practices, theory and history, and practical applications from the perspective of all four concentrations to better gain an understanding of the practice as a whole.
Students will acquire valuable knowledge in the art and craft of design and technical theatre, the conceptual and leadership skills involved in directing, and the organizational expertise necessary to manage stage and production. Theatre arts students will have flexibility to explore a range of courses and skills across the various disciplines of theatre as they train to be versatile artists. Students will put into practice what they are learning in the classroom through hands-on engagement in the preparation and presentation of performances produced by the Theatre program. This approach prepares students to face the rewarding and challenging opportunities of making a life in the performing arts.
As a result of successfully completing program requirements, students should be able to:
- demonstrate leadership and collaborative skills;
- appreciate the history of theatre styles and theory;
- utilize skills in the art and craft of design and technology for theatre and allied arts; and
- build on techniques learned through hands-on experience of various production models and processes while creating works on stage.
