Acting for Stage and Screen, BA

The Bachelor of Arts in Acting for Stage and Screen offers students a forward-thinking curriculum rooted in dynamic and varied approaches to training through hands-on experience and the development of professional skills to build a career.  Our training encourages individual growth and self-expression, deep and creative collaboration, and critical and cultural engagement in performance. Students will have multiple opportunities to develop confidence and discipline through cross-disciplinary collaborations, performance in theatre and on-camera work.  Acting students develop connections and build networks by collaborating with peers across disciplines, including on-camera opportunities with our School of Film and Television.  Acting students are encouraged to take advantage of our many specialized classes to build performance skills and marketability.  We also provide acting students with opportunities for professional internships, courses specializing in career readiness, and the opportunity to audition for the Acting Senior Showcase, a platform for entry into the professional performance community of Chicago. Columbia College Chicago offers a wide variety of minors that can be paired with the BA to enhance knowledge, competitive skills, and professional networks.

As a result of successfully completing program requirements, students should be able to:

  • build competence in the vocal, physical, and analytical techniques necessary to fully inhabit any role in which they are cast for live or on-camera performance;

  • engage with a diverse range of dramatic literature as an artist and as a citizen;

  • build understanding of the performer's work within the interdisciplinary art forms of theatre and film/tv;

  • integrate theory, process, and text analysis in relation to performance;

  • develop knowledge and skills in adjacent forms of theatre and production practice to broaden employment opportunities; and

  • develop skill and confidence in pursuing professional practice through auditions and the creation of opportunities via self-promotion.
