Acting for Stage and Screen, BFA

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting for Stage and Screen prepares students to lead the next generation of innovative and skilled performing artists.  A unique and dynamic curriculum offers students advanced acting training from multiple performance styles and perspectives within theatre, film, and media. While encouraging individual growth and self-expression within an ensemble experience, students are provided the opportunity to prepare for a career as a global artist, critically and culturally engaged with the wide and varied field of performance.  BFA students are encouraged to participate in an international exchange semester to immerse themselves in international performance practice and to broaden their experience of the art form. Our program graduates artist-citizens with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to engage in their field with critical thinking skills and cultural sensitivity. In addition to numerous performance opportunities, BFA students are expected to participate in Senior Showcase, a platform for entry into the professional performance community.

BFA students are regularly evaluated to monitor their levels of achievement, progress and suggest directions for growth. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in the major, complete performance requirements, and demonstrate continued development in order to continue in the BFA program.

As a result of successfully completing program requirements, students should be able to:

  • develop a strong integration of acting, voice, and movement for a variety of performance styles, including performance work in different media: on camera, voice over and devised work;

  • analyze texts for performance and research;

  • engage collaborative skills necessary to be a vital, proactive part of performance and production ensembles;

  • connect work as a performer to the social and cultural impact of the arts and as an active member of society;

  • recognize and celebrate a diverse range of cultural and artistic perspectives;

  • develop a strategy for entering the profession and sustaining a career through the creation of a business model for self-management as a performer/theatre maker; and

  • build knowledge of contemporary performance practices to deepen skills and broaden professional opportunities.
