MUSC 251 Beat and Rhythm Production In this course, students learn to analyze and create rhythmic layers and textures useful in contemporary popular music, in a range of styles according to student interest and affinity. This involves evaluation of rhythmic elements in existing songs, as well as composition and production of students’ own rhythmic textures. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening proficiency with rhythmic representation in its various contemporary forms, including traditional notation and MIDI/ sequencing. The course is not just about “making beats;” rather, it is designed to enable students to deepen their appreciation and understanding of rhythm in contemporary music, in areas of personal or professional interest.
