32-3621 Music History, Ethnography, and Analysis Advanced course explores the construction of dominant historical narratives and the potential of ethnographic study as an historiographical intervention. In a culminating research project, students will work with a Chicago musician, tradition, or repertoire; conduct interviews; engage in musical transcription and/or analysis; and come to an understanding of how musical practice engages and responds to its social context. Section 01 is intended for CUP students; section 02 for Jazz students.
