38-5176J MAT - Visual Thinking Strategies Practicum This course will introduce the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) methodology. VTS is a facilitation method that uses discussions about artworks to teach critical thinking, visual literacy, language, and communication skills. Students will learn the VTS facilitation methodology through practice in museums with real objects. Students will examine its implications in terms of developmentally appropriate and student-centered education and explore ways it may transfer across the curriculum. To develop deeper understanding of the methodology, educational theory will be discussed, primarily in terms of how developmental, constructivist, social constructivist, and aesthetic theories can be used in one’s teaching practice.
