50-2170 Anthropology of Performance Course considers performance in the arts and performance of activities in everyday life in several cultures of the world, with an emphasis on ritual behavior, liminality, values, customs, and taboos. Anthropologists study human behavior in order to understand actions from the point of view of actors, using the ethnographic method to interpret significance and meaning in people’s lives. Course includes study of texts, film, and music from cultures in Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
