56-1380 Historical Geology Students investigate the geological processes that have shaped the environment and life on Earth over the past 4.5 billion years. The course explores the basic tenets of geology including plate tectonics, geomorphology, and stratigraphy to trace the development of common fossil forms and prehistoric life with a special focus on the Chicago geological record. Laboratory experience includes mineral/rock identification, analysis of fossils, and interpretation of geologic maps. The class will examine collections at the Field Museum.
