38-2150 Theoretical Foundations of Teaching ELL and Bilingual Education This course develops students’ understanding of linguistic diversity including alternate dialects in the United States along with Standard American English and the social, political, cultural, and socioeconomic contexts in which English language learner and bilingual education (ELL/BE) have developed historically. Major aspects of language learning and language acquisition are studied, as well as different models and theories of ELL and BE. National and Illinois legislation pertaining to ELL/BE and its impact on classroom practice will be discussed.
