33-2345 West African Dance Technique II This course will advance foundational techniques, terminology, and history common to traditional West African Dances, primarily those derived from the Old Mali Empire. It will build on the polycentric and polyrhythmic skills developed in West African Dance Technique I with a specific focus on energetic nuances and fluidity in rhythmic articulation. Students will learn to integrate rhythms (steps)) into articulate phrases and express themselves both in choreography and in improvisation. All African dance classes have live percussion accompaniment.
