32-3621 Popular Music: History, Ethnography, and Analysis Advanced course examines the history, ethnography, and analysis of popular music. Students will learn several popular music traditions, inquiring into their history, musical structure, and social significance. In addition, each student will undertake a research project that involves working with a Chicago musician, tradition, or repertoire; conducting interviews; engaging in musical transcription and/or analysis; and coming to an understanding of how musical practice engages and responds to its social context. 3 Credits
